In some cases the magnetic pet door operates on batteries or electricity, but most do not which means they are not subject to battery or electrical failure and are ever-lasting. This feature is very convenient, as the door won’t let the cat be locked out during bad weather because the storm kocked out the electrical system of the neighborhood.

How These Doors Operate

This door is able to detect the electromagnetic field of a magnet that is part of a collar that the cat has to wear, which turns the collar into some sort of door key. When the pet comes close to the door the magnetic pull releases the latch and the door opens. The system thus allows the cat to come and go as it pleases while the door is locked when the cat is away.

The idea behind this concept is to give freedom of movement to the cat, who can them come and go without the need of the owner to interrupt his or her activities just to open the door or a window for the pet.

Offers Security

The magentic cat door has a feature that adds safety to your cat’s life: it will lock itself after your cat has passed through it. This means that if your cat is chased by another animal, like a feroucious dog, the door will keep other animals from following your cat inside the house. As a nice addition, thieves can’t use the door to get into your house either.

Some magnetic cat doors even have some extra features that will allow you to modify how and when access is granted. They are fairly easy to install and are very well-built.

A magnetic pet door is not only resistant to water and any type of weather, but it’s also tight enough that it won’t let water get inside the house. They are recommended for cats six to nine months of age, but are not recommended for kittens.
