Cats are notoriously independent and are very willful with a mind of their own. Are you able to train your cat and teach him new tricks?

Cat owners are often under the impression that there cat is simply too moody to respond. Some owners feel that their Kitty is untrainable simply because they are so independent. Pets frequently fail to obey their owners simply because they fail to understand what it is you want from them. If you have attempted to teach your cat, you may not be doing it correctly.

Good Cat:

Training your cat takes time and patience. It takes more of that then it does with a dog. A sure way to achieve results is to use positive reinforcement. Please do not scold your cat because your cat is more than likely to misbehave when you are not paying attention. Rather, praise good behaviour. Any cat is able to learn. It is wise to commence when your cat is young approximately eight to ten weeks is ideal. Despite its age any pet can do well.

How is it possible to get started?

When in the process of training your cat the first thing to start with is for your cat to come when called. Hold a cat’s treat and simply call his name. Start by making sure you cat is in a good mood. Try to make sure that there isn’t a great deal of noise. Distractions will only slow down tha cat or befuddle him. Decide on a single command. The command should be short and simple. It is important to note that simple instructions work well such as come kitty or here kitty. It is important to get down on their level by sitting or kneeling on the floor. Give the command. Your voice should be happy and excited. When your cat responds to you, reward him with praise and a treat. Try to ensure that you sufficiently praise your cat. Then, move away and do the same thing again. Try and use the same tone of voice and the same direction. Do not work on it for any longer than ten minutes. If the kitty is frustrated por bored, stop for the time being. Repeat this two to three times a day for approximately a week. Only when your cat has mastered a command is it possible to move onto another.

There are many things that your cat needs to learn for his own well being are needed to teach all cats. For example, he needs to learn to tolerate a harness and a leash in case you need to travel with him. Furthermore, your cat should learn to use a carry crate.

What about a harness and leash?:

To do this, you’ll want to start by putting the harness on him. Do not under any circumstances attempt to restrain your cat once it is place. Praise your cat for it. Reward your kitty with a treat for responding so well. Once he is accustomed to wearing it attach the leash and allow him to lead you throughout the area. Try coaxing him into following you with rewards and praise. Many cats will learn to heel on the leash. However, most will not. They should learn not to struggle or panic whilst wearing the lead.

A Carry Crate:

When it comes to the crate, it can be done a little simpler. Cats like cosy and dark places so try and put a comfortable blanket or maybe even a toy inside the cats crate. Give him praise when you place your cat inside. Then, simply leave him there for a couple of minutes. Ensure you let him out within three to five minutes. Avoid offering your cat ptaise when he leaves the carry case as you do not want him to be under the impression that this is the good behaviour. Make sure to reward him, though whenever he goes in. Leave the cat in the crate a little longer each time. Your cat will eventually be trained well enough to keep him there.

I hope that these simple hints will highlight how useful it can be to discipline your cat.
